GX-1F

The only invisible tree sensor solution.

GX-1F Flex-cord

Standalone. Wireless. Autonomous. Buried just under the surface, the GX-1F puts ground truth beneath trees, orchard blocks and vine rows — without visible equipment above ground.

Root-zone intelligence

Different landscapes. The same need for ground truth.

Trees & arboriculture

Specimen trees, palms and planted landscapes. Track conditions beneath the canopy while keeping the landscape free of visible sensor hardware.

Farms & orchards

Explore perennial crop deployments by soil, irrigation zone and root depth. Use measured moisture and salinity context to support local agronomic decisions.

Vineyards

A mixed GX-1F and iQ1 deployment pairs buried Flex-cord sensing with above-ground SmartTower monitoring across vineyard blocks. The GX-1F stays invisible; iQ1 adds an elevated field presence.

Vineyards: GX-1F + iQ1

We mix GX-1F Flex-cord sensors and iQ1 SmartTowers on vineyards. GX-1F places its sensing element below ground at the selected root depth; iQ1 provides SmartTower monitoring with an elevated LTE mast. Both contribute to GAIN. The iQ1 is not a gateway required to connect the independently cellular GX-1F.

What happens below ground matters.

Four measurement types, reported every 10 minutes. The flexible cord positions the sensing element at a selected root-zone location; it is not a continuous scan of every depth along the cord.

Soil moisture

Volumetric water content at the sensing location — below-ground context for irrigation timing.

Soil temperature

Temperature where the roots grow, distinct from the air above the canopy.

Salinity · EC

Electrical conductivity provides salinity context alongside moisture and soil conditions.

Dielectric response

The soil’s electromagnetic response, reported alongside water content, temperature and EC.

Measurements become context through GAIN.

GAIN combines root-zone readings with weather and evapotranspiration context, location-specific learning, and alerts by mobile push, SMS and email. Your team owns the decision. Sensor-free SmartLocations provide predictions, not live measurements.

Flexible placement. Independent communications.

Standard flex profile
1–44 inches; sensing element placed at the selected depth
Custom cord
Custom orders up to 5 meters; deployment reviewed for the site
Transmitter body
At the top of the hole, no more than 8 inches below grade
Root-ball measurement limit
44 inches for the standard installation — body burial does not extend this to 52 inches
Power
76 Ah industrial battery; 7-year maintenance-free power life
Reporting
144 readings per day, one every 10 minutes
Connectivity
LTE Cat-1 with multi-carrier eSIM; no gateway, mesh or property Wi-Fi required
Deployment mapping

Evidence-led exploration

Five strong crop candidates to start with.

Almonds, avocados, citrus, wine grapes and pistachios are research candidates for root-zone monitoring — not proven GroundWorx crop results. Placement depends on soil, irrigation pattern, tree age and the active root zone.

University sources are background research, not endorsement or validation of the GX-1F. Readings support local decisions with an agronomist; they are not an irrigation prescription.

Start with the signal. Finish with verified readings.

The same 6-inch-wide hole taken down to the root-ball zone, a 1-inch pea gravel base, and a vertical sensor with the drainage hole down. The 44-inch flex cord runs up to the body at the top of the hole.

The key element of every install: the sensor prongs always go into perfect, undisturbed soil in the sidewall — never into loosened or backfilled soil.

Works with or without iQ SmartWell.

Standalone GX-1F deployment requires no well. The iQ SmartWell Edition supports a relocatable, flush calibration sleeve with RFID identification and BLE pairing. iQ SmartWell and its GX-1F Edition remain under development, targeting Q1 2027; this is not a guaranteed delivery date.

Build around your trees, not a generic sensor grid.

GX-1F hardware: $850 per sensor, with the first year of GAIN included. GAIN service is required; standard annual renewal is $325 per sensor. Sign a 3- or 5-year GAIN agreement and any GX-1A, GX-1F or GX-1S drops to $750 — $1,500 all-in per sensor over 3 years, or $2,000 over 5.
