Evidence & Impact

Environmental AI you can check.

GAIN's authority comes from the ground, not from claims. Here is what has been measured in the field, and exactly how GAIN learns, predicts and validates.

Figures reflect metered water consumption for the Cal Poly Arabian Horse Center over January through May 2026 compared against January through May 2025. The 7.51 acre-foot difference converts to 2,447,141 gallons at 325,851 gallons per acre-foot, representing a 23.2% reduction. Results at any site depend on soil, climate, irrigation infrastructure, and operating practice.

“The data changed how we water. We stopped guessing and started making decisions we can defend.”

Partnership · Validation in progress

GroundWorx + RainMaker.earth

GroundWorx is partnering with RainMaker.earth to use our sensors to independently evaluate the soil response to their irrigation water-treatment system. Validation is in progress; no partnership results or savings figures have been published.

Water treatment, independently observed.

RainMaker.earth provides the irrigation water-treatment system. GroundWorx provides soil telemetry; GAIN adds site history and weather context. The aim is an evidence-based evaluation, not an assumed outcome.

No partnership savings figures or completed results are published. Soil readings do not directly measure plant uptake or gallons conserved; water-use records and agronomic checks are needed. Existing GroundWorx case studies are separate.

Science & methods

How GAIN learns, and how we keep it honest.

  1. 01

    Measure

Buried GX-1 series sensors report soil moisture, temperature and salinity from the root zone every ten minutes — 144 readings a day per location.

  2. 02

    Learn the baseline

GAIN learns how each location dries, drains and responds to heat and irrigation, so every site is judged against its own normal rather than a generic threshold.

  3. 03

    Forecast

Root-zone history is combined with AI-modeled, site-specific weather to project where moisture and stress are heading over the coming days.

  4. 04

    Recommend

GAIN proposes an action — hold, reduce, add water, or inspect — with its supporting evidence and a confidence level. People make the final call.

  5. 05

    Validate

What actually happened after each decision is measured and fed back, so predictions are continually checked against ground truth and improve over time.

Know what you're looking at

Measured, predicted, estimated.

Measured

A live reading from a sensor in the ground at that location. Timestamped and traceable.

Predicted

A SmartLocation estimate from a learned model after the sensor has moved on. Useful for planning, periodically re-checked with a returning sensor.

Estimated

Calculator and counter figures on this site use published benchmarks. They are illustrations, not quotes, guarantees or measured results.

GAIN is decision support. It does not replace the judgment of superintendents, growers and land managers, and it is not a fire alarm or life-safety system.
